Panama Flag The flag of Panama was officially chosen on November 3, 1903. The flag was made after the USA flag. The colored stars are said to represent the conservative (red) and the liberal (blue). White symbolizes peace.

Languages: Spanish and English Population: 3.4 million next to Belize it has the smallest population in Central America. Religion: 85% is Roman Catholic 15% is Protestant. Climate/Weather: The tropical climate is hot and humid with rainforests. Monetary Unit: In Panama they use U.S Dollars. Some us Balboa, which is the Panamanian currency.

Government and Economy Form of Government : Panama is led by a president. The president serves a five-year term and can not be reelected. Thereare two vice presidents. There are 11 provinces and one governorfor each one.Current Leader : Ricardo Matenelli Main Income: The Panama Canal where they collect money. What they export: They export banana, rice, coffee, sugarcane, and vegetables.

Way of Life Education: Panamanian kids are required to go to school between the ages of seven and fifteen. Students attending private schools wear uniforms. The school year starts in March and ends in December. January and February are left for summer vacation. Food: Rice is eaten with almost every meal. It is eaten with eggs, chicken, beef, sardines, meat, fish, potatoes. Sports: Baseball, Soccer, Snorkeling, Swimming, Scuba Diving, Surfing, and Sailing. Music: The areas traditional music is played by a band with a singer an accordion player, a guitar player, and a drummer.

Customs and Holidays Carnaval is a favorite holiday in Panama. It’s a four-day celebration. Carnaval is a time people wear colorful costumes and masks. They sing, dance, and parade in the streets. They also eat, drink, and party. Water fights, called mojaderas, are also a popular tradition people do during the Carnaval times. People would drench each other in water, from water balloons, hoses, or buckets.

Bocas Bocas is a series of islands in the Caribbean coast of Panama just south of Costa Rica.

Fun Facts Panama is the only place in the world were you can see the sun rise on the Pacific and set on the Atlantic. The oldest operating railroad is in Panama. In Panama you can swim in the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean in the same day.
