KRONPRINZ GmbH History – Highlights
( 1897 Rudolf Kronenberg and Carl Prinz created the “KRONPRINZ AG für Fahrradteile”. The company produces parts for bikes and motorbikes like spoke wheels in wood and steel. KRONPRINZ is the first to produce steel wheel. 1903 KRONPRINZ patents a passenger car steel wheel with demountable rim. 1930 Start of production of passenger car steel wheels with disc. Before, only spoke wheels were on the market. 1938 Mannesmann takes over the majority in KRONPRINZ. The production includes welded tubes, profiles, parts for planes and passenger car wheels. 1955 Start of production of steel wheels with disc for tubeless wheels. 1969 Production of one-piece truck steel wheels (drop centre wheels). 1970 Transmission of the old KRONPRINZ AG tube facility to the Mannesmannröhren- Werke and of the wheel facility to the new KRONPRINZ AG (100 % Mannesmann AG). 1977 Mannesmann-Werke AG takes the head of Mannesmann KRONPRINZ AG. 1980 Start of production of cast aluminium wheels.

( 1988 After the integration of Fichtel & Sachs AG in Mannesmann, F&S AG takes over the executive functions. 1995 Establishment of a complete production line for fabricated aluminium wheels. 1996 Production of wheels with protected valve for trucks (ALV wheels). Acquire a 20% participation in the Turkish wheel manufacturer TEKERSAN, a subsidiary of KOC Group. 1997 Michelin takes over 51 % in KRONPRINZ from Mannesmann. 1999 Complete take over of the shares by Michelin. 2001 Sales of the cast aluminium wheel activity to the Borbet Group. Creation of the „Räderport“ in Essen in cooperation with Fritz Berger GmbH. This external logistics platform is in charge of the distribution of wheels for the Aftermarket to the European dealer network. 2003 KRONPRINZ takes over 100% of Fritz Berger GmbH. 2004 Complete take over of the shares of TEKERSAN by KRONPRINZ. 2005 mefro wheels takes over as of the complete steel wheel activity from Michelin.

Brothers Edouard and André Michelin start the production of wheels in Clermont-Ferrand and patent the first demountable bike tyre. Development and start of production of the first demountable wheel for passenger cars. Start of production of the first spare wheel. Separation of the wheel production in La Chapelle St. Luc / Troyes. Start of production of one-piece wheels with well for passenger cars. Start of production of one-piece wheels with well and 15° bead seat angle for trucks. Set up of a second plant for steel wheels in Aranda de Duero (Spain). Michelin takes over from Mannesmann 51% of Mannesmann-Kronprinz AG in order to reinforce its market position in steel wheel business. 1999 Complete take over of the shares by Michelin, creation of Michelin Kronprinz Werke. Separation of the wheel business within Michelin, and creation of Michelin Roues France S.A.S. Decision to close Aranda plant, and transfer of the activity and parts of the machines to Michelin Roues France and Michelin Kronprinz Werke Take over of the total Michelin wheel business (LPRE) by mefro Group as of January, 1st 2005 and integration in mefro wheels GmbH
