An essay is a group of related paragraphs about one subject.

The paragraphs are related, because different ideas are written about one subject.

There are three parts to an essay. The introduction, the body, and the conclusion.

Introduction Body Conclusion

In the introduction, you address the prompt and simply list your three main ideas. Example: You’ve Just Inherited Five Million Dollars; What Are Your Plans? Introduction: I’ve just inherited five million dollars. (1 st idea) My plans are to set up a trust fund for my children. (2 nd idea) Secondly, I will invest in a no risk mutual fund, and (3 rd idea) thirdly, I will travel around the world.

The body has three paragraphs to accommodate your three main ideas, or your three different opinions. The body should have approximately six to eight sentences.

. In the second paragraph, which is the first paragraph of your body you write about your first main idea or opinion. With part of the five million dollars I have just inherited, I will set up a trust fund for my children. (elaborate, using the five w’s).

In the third paragraph of your essay. which is the second body of your essay you write about your second idea or opinion. Write about no risk mutual funds.

In the forth paragraph, which is your third and final body, you write about your third idea or opinion. Write about traveling around the world.

In your conclusion, your fifth and final paragraph, You simply restate your introduction. Use a transitional phrase or word, such as, In conclusion, Finally, or As I have stated.
