3 Public Relations as defined by PRSA…  Functions to “help an organization and its publics adapt mutually to each other.”  As a management function it includes  anticipating,  analyzing and interpreting public opinion;  counseling management;  developing programs that inform public understanding; and  planning and implementing an organization’s efforts to influence or change public policy.

4 What PR Professionals do…  PR pros look for opportunities to deliver appropriate messages to their audiences.  This may include planning events or speaking engagements.  You may find yourself "pitching" story ideas to reporters to get them interested in covering subjects important to your client or company.  Other days may have you working on the strategy of an overall communications program – in essence, what you'll release when.

15 Sept. 22 Meeting’s Speaker  Kelly Garrow  Kelly Fritz Garrow has been director of communications at the Toledo Museum of Art since 2009, and oversees marketing, public/media relations and digital communications.  Under her leadership, the Museum was named “American’s Favorite Art Museum” by the readers of online blog Modern Art Notes. The Museum has received a number of communications awards from the Advertising Club of Toledo, Women in Communication, the Ohio Museum Association and the American Alliance of Museums over the past three years.
