2 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 PFP I&T

3 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 Schedule Status 2.5 weeks margin to delivery to LM Package testing complete, instrument schedules mostly decoupled Deconflicted resources for Cal chambers, TVac chambers STATIC is the critical path

4 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 EVM (June report) We continue to make up schedule and are getting close to a cumulative SPI of 1. We should deliver on time unless we run into issues, but do not have much margin to deal with issues. We continue to run high on cost as we press to make up schedule, but should start to fall off in manpower in the next month or two. SPI / CPI June 2012

5 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 Accomplishments PFP instruments all integrated PFP self-compatibility complete PFP EMC testing complete Instruments starting on component testing STATIC FM ACC/MCP complete, ready to install More in instrument sections…

8 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 Issues EUV Temp sensor noise –Fix implemented in EM harness and tested at EMC –Fix incorporated in FM harness by SSL MAG Heater CE/CS issues –Filter to be added to MAG heater circuit –Implemented as a box attached to the outside of PFDPU PFDPU does not have to be opened. –Will be separately tested and qualified and attached late in the flow Noise in Electra receive band –May require LPW to be powered off during relay orbits – TBR. Minor EMC issues to be addressed by waiver

19 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 MAVEN PFP SWEA Status August 2012 Dave Mitchell, SWEA Lead

20 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 SWEA Status –Full chamber CPT performed July 18 following Suite I&T  Successful (see next slide) –Suite EMC successful (Aug 6-14) –SWEA recorded a grand total of 0 counts during all susceptibility tests –No detectable radiated emissions from SWEA –SWEA went to vibe on Friday (8/17) –Testing incomplete because of facilities issues –Plan is to complete vibe on Monday (8/20) –CPT to follow vibe –SWEA to begin Thermal Vac next –Bayside Tvac chamber is ready –GSE set up and ready (tested with EM) –Test procedures reviewed and revised. SWEA at Suite I&T

21 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 SWEA CPT on 18 July 2012

22 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 MAVEN PFP SWIA Status August 2012 Jasper Halekas, SWIA Lead

23 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 SWIA Progress FM Assembly Complete SWIA FM completely integrated with PFDPU EMC Complete Environmental Testing and Calibration Proceeding Well –EMC passed with no issues for SWIA Zero counts seen by SWIA during test No anomalies in voltages, temperatures, etc. –Optics verification in vacuum chamber this week to make sure everything still nominal after recent attenuator replacement –Vibration test scheduled for Monday, Aug. 20 –Magnetics test planned for week of Aug. 20 –TVAC scheduled August 31 – September 9 (after SWEA) –Final calibration scheduled September 21-30 (after SWEA)

24 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 SWIA Issues Schedule for rest of summer –TVAC chamber and calibration chamber both have tight schedules with SWEA, SWIA, and STATIC stacked up one after the other Backup chambers exist for both tests but each have drawbacks Will be watching schedule margin closely to see if we need to mitigate schedule risk by changing chambers Flight software processing and telemetry –LUT loads and HV control all working now –Most processing and telemetry now working Outstanding issue with accumulation buffer timing leads to first half of spectrum N and second half of spectrum N-1 being combined

25 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 MAVEN PFP STATIC Status August 2012 Jim McFadden, STATIC Lead

26 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 STATIC Accomplishments FM STATIC successfully passes EMC – no noise detected. PFDPU successfully produces STATIC APIDs D8 and DA, as needed for EMC. FM ACC/MCP HVPS assembled, tested in high vacuum, ready for integration with the FM unit – last FM board complete. ACC/MCP HVPS board PFRs (PFRs 79,80,82,93 – closed; PRFs 95,97,106 complete, signoff pending) Digital board PFRs (PFR 55,57,66 – closed; PFR 70 signoff pending). Anode board PFRs (PFR 60,64,88 - closed) TDC board PFRs closed (PFR 58 - closed) LVPS board PFRs (PFR 51 - closed) FM spare aperture mechanism & mechanical attenuator subsystem assembled/tested/installed in STATIC FM unit, spare subsystem replaced damaged unit (PFR 102 - signoff pending). FM pin-hole attenuator fabbed/installed (PFR 100 - signoff pending) Spare anode HV connector fabricated/tested – allows spare Anode-MCP to be assembled.

27 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 STATIC Open Issues PFDPU not yet generating the bulk of STATIC APIDs Attenuator fix (PFR 100) needs testing during calibration (~8-27) FM spare mechanical attenuator and aperture mechanism need testing during vacuum calibration (PFR 102). Test scripts need to be modified into RTS commands New small ion gun for low energies (<10 eV) fabricated and in test. This will free up the old small ion gun for used in TV testing. New Colutron ion gun run -- ions detected with faraday cup. Still having problems with cooling the heat sink – not designed to operating in a hot calibration room. Colutron gun needs testing with EM sensor before calibrations with the FM sensor. Spare units for critical subsystems are now being assembled (ACC/MCP, MCP-Anode, TOF analyzer) STATIC begins calibrations 8-27.

28 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 MAVEN PFP SEP Status August, 2012 Davin Larson, SEP Lead David Glaser, SEP ME Miles Robinson, SEP EE

29 PFP MSR, 8/21/2012 SEP Accomplishments Unfortunately SEP has had (two) serious mishaps. –A STATIC safe-to-mate test resulted in the overstressing of the nano-muscles on both sensor units. (PFR-101) –Repairs to the units were done hastily to be ready in time for EMC testing. –A final safe-to-mate test was not done prior EMC, thus a nano-muscle that was damaged during cover closing was not detected. This resulted in short from ACTRET to ground. –All four nano-muscles were over stressed a second time during EMC due to this short. (PFR 114) –Nano-muscle are being replaced now. SEP completed EMC with a need for waiver. –SEP noise during CS tests on actuator service Post EMC CPT successful (with exception of actuator) Calibration to begin following repairs (End of week/weekend/ next week) Vibe will be delayed until September. T/V should not be delayed. (Will follow LWP in SNOUT2)
