2 What lakes do the Soo locks connect
It connects Lake Huron and Lake Superior The locks have a lake on either side of it It is located in the U.P. in Sault St.MARIE on the St. Mary’s river

3 What are the locks ? The locks are huge gates that allow ships to get from one lake to the next

4 WHY DO WE NEED THE LOCKS? We needed it for…
. For boats to be able to get through the rapids on the St. Mary’s River . Before the locks people had to have the boats portaged previous to the locks . For boats to be able to ship their goods What does portage mean… . It means carrying boats and their loads over land between waterways

5 WHEN WERE THE LOCKS BUILT?
The locks were built in 1855 Challenges of building the locks were… . In winter their tools were covered in snow . Many died from the Cholera Epidemic

It helped mining buissness America’s Industrial growth
