2 Canary Islands The Canary Islands belong to Spain. There are seven islands altogether called Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro. They are 100km off the coast of northwest Africa.

3 Money & population There are 1.84 million people living in the Canary Islands. They use Euros. They used to use pesetas

4 Flag and capital This is the Canary Island flag. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of the capital cities. Santa Cruz is the capital of Tenerife.

5 Famous sights This is a famous rock in Tenerife. It used to be on a Spanish banknote. Behind it is Mount Teide. Mount Teide is the biggest mountain in Spain. It’s a volcano as well. It last erupted about 100 years ago.

6 Festivals There is a music festival on January the twenty second, the morning of the twenty seventh, February the first and second. Spain’s famous musical instrument the castanets.

7 Wildlife This is a blue chaffinch. It is only found in the Canaries. There are lots of wildlife parks and fishing trips you can go on. If you go in search of dolphins and whales you are 99% sure that you will see one or both of them

8 weather In the Canary Islands the weather is usually quite hot because the heat comes from Africa.

9 sport Tenerife is a football team is in the second division. They have been in la liga. They all so have another team called Las Palmas They are in the third division and also been in la liga. Gran Canary is a basketball team. They are fifth in the Spanish league.

10 Restaurants and hotels There are lots and lots of hotels and restaurants because of tourists. You can eat pasta, pizza, paella (rice and seafood) or anything you like.

11 If you go to the Canary Islands I guarantee that you’ll have lots and lots of fun because there are plenty of beaches to relax on.
