2 Who Needs Dissertation Funding? Doctoral students who have finished all requirements for the degree except the dissertation Doctoral students who are not receiving funding from faculty research grants or departmental fellowships

3 What is Dissertation Funding? Generally supports dissertation research Length and scope of fellowships vary Some may support pre-dissertation work and dissertation writing

4 When Should I begin looking for funding? At least one year before beginning your research Deadlines generally occur in fall and spring Some smaller grants may have rolling deadlines

5 How do I find funding? Two Databases that GSAF subscribes to: The Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS) Community of Science Funding Opportunities Database (COS)

6 Where Else? Seeking funding directly from the facility in which you want to do research Libraries, collections, research institutes, agencies, etc.

7 Any other places to look? Google! Your colleagues Academic and Professional Organizations.

8 How can GSAF help? Read drafts of your proposal Make copies of you application and proposal for mailing Consultation on specific fellowship questions
