2 The problems DMS faces To determine the preferred communication method of employees To eliminate duplicate and redundant messages To eliminate unnecessary mass mailings

3 DMS Health Group provides imaging services (MRI, CT, PET) Mobile units travel from hospital to hospital. Portable x-ray vans service nursing homes. Medical equipment shipped to hospital facilities nationwide.

4 DMS has 451 employees that work in three discrete environments. Branch offices39% Home offices11% Mobile offices 50%

7 Research Question Do DMS employees have a preferred method of receiving communications?

8 Methodology Survey delivered to all 451 DMS employees in discrete work environments –Survey composed of 13 questions –228 were e-mailed –223 were mailed via U.S. Mail (for employees without e-mail access)

9 Methodology (continued) Response –61% for e-mailed surveys (139 out of 228) –60% for mailed surveys (133 out of 223)

10 Survey Questions 13 questions, categories included –Location –Communication preference for receipt of »Company updates »Benefits information »Urgent messages –Utilization of company intranet site

12 Preference for Receiving Company Information Significant finding E-mail preference highest among office employees with e-mail access.

13 Preference for Receiving Benefits Information Significant finding Preferred method is e-mail formatted for printing.

14 Preference for Receiving Urgent Information Significant findings Voicemail preferred method Although majority have e-mail access, voicemail is preferred.

15 Would you use a company intranet site? Significant findings Employees would use intranet if available. Those without e-mail access can still access intranet site.

16 Research Answer Do DMS employees have a preferred method of receiving communications? Yes, preference depends on location.

17 Conclusion Communications should be sent differently to different discrete locations. –Branch »E-Mail for all communications –Home & Mobile »E-mail for company and benefits information »Voicemail for urgent messages

18 Recommendations Use e-mail for sending company communications. –Provide mobile employees with company cell phones with e-mail access. Send urgent messages via voicemail. Company needs to develop a company intranet site. An additional survey should be done after the above recommendations have been completed.
