3 READ Page 1 of your Student Book: “Start Thinking About…” Have any of you had any experience of any of these things, or know somebody who has?

4 Know the features of some of the different web browsers Understand a range of digital risks and how to protect yourself against some of the digital threats you face when using the internet Be able to explain some of the strengths and weaknesses of different browsers

5 Set up a new folder called 9.0 – Digital Detectives.

6 The focus of this lesson is the use of Web Browsers and how to configure them safely. What is a Web browser?

7 A Web Browser is… ….a piece of software that enables your computer to display web pages correctly. Web pages are written in a code called HTML, which looks like this: A Browser translates this code into a web page that you can see and understand.

8 How many different types of web Browser can you name?

10 An IP address is a number that is used to identify each computer that is connected to the internet. Each time you use the internet, your computer leaves a digital footprint. This footprint is almost impossible to eradicate completely!

11 There are ways in which you can hide your IP address if you want to. W HY MIGHT SOMEBODY WANT TO DO THIS ?

12 Browser History Your browser keeps a record of all the sites you visit. This can be very useful.

13 You can clear your browser history if you want to. W HY MIGHT SOMEBODY WANT TO DO THIS ?

14 Because of the Computer Crime Laws here in Thailand, the school has to keep a log of all the sites visited by everybody who uses the network. The network keeps a log of every user: When you log on and off Which computer(s) you use Which sites/pages you visit YOUR ISP DOES THIS TOO!
