www.gc.cuny.edu CUNY SPH Doctor of Public Health (DPH) Program The DPH program was created in 2007 and is part of the accredited CUNY School of Public Health (CUNY SPH). The school is made up of four City University of New York (CUNY) colleges: The Graduate Center Hunter College Brooklyn College Lehman College

The CUNY SPH carries out teaching, research and service to identify and promote equitable, efficient, evidence-based solutions to pressing health problems facing populations around the world. The DPH Program aims to: Prepare public health researchers to rigorously generate and apply scientific evidence to improve the health of populations; Provide an interdisciplinary education in which graduates are capable of drawing on health-related theory and knowledge from multiple disciplines; Foster multilevel research and intervention – i.e., understanding and addressing public health issues at the individual, household, community, and policy levels; Pay special attention to new and existing linkages between research, practice and policy with relevance to public health.

www.gc.cuny.edu CUNY SPH’s DPH Program Admissions Requirements Masters in Public Health (MPH) (that includes the 5 Masters Core & Track Specific requirements) GRE (taken within 5 years of applying) College and graduate school transcripts Two letters of recommendation Personal statement (500 words) Resume/CV >3 years of prior relevant teaching, research or programmatic work experience in public health or a health related field

www.gc.cuny.edu CUNY SPH’s DPH Program Admissions Requirements: Track Specific* Community, Society and Health At least three courses in social dimensions of health; two quantitative research courses. Epidemiology At least three quantitative research courses. Environmental and Occupational Health One course in toxicology; at least two courses in either occupational safety and health or environmental sciences; one course in public, environmental or occupational health law, or policy. Health Policy and Management One course in healthcare systems, management, or administration; one course in health policy; one social science course. *There are additional requirements for those applying to the Nutrition or MCRSH Concentrations

www.gc.cuny.edu CUNY SPH’s DPH Program Admissions Requirements: For Those Without a Masters of Public Health (MPH) Acceptable Graduate Degrees Masters Degrees in: Nutrition, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Social Work, Urban Planning, Social Science (e.g., sociology, anthropology) with health concentration, Nursing with specialization in community health, or an MD or JD. The MPH Core Courses

www.gc.cuny.edu CUNY SPH’s DPH Program Admissions Requirements: For Those Without a Masters of Public Health (MPH) The MPH Core Courses Biostatistics Epidemiology Environmental Health Social and Behavioral Dimensions of Health Health Policy and Management Three of the 5 MPH Core Courses must be completed before applicants will be accepted. The remaining two must be completed within the first year as a matriculated DPH student. MPH Core Courses can be taken at any CEPH- Accredited public health program.

www.gc.cuny.edu CUNY SPH’s DPH Program Tuition & Funding GC Per Semester Tuition (2013-2014 Academic Year) Full-time (7 credits +) $4,100 Part-time (per credit)$465 Out-of state (per credit) $795 Funding & Financial Assistance The GC Office of Financial Assistance provides information on institutional support and federal aid packages The GC Office of Research and Sponsored Programs provides information on governmental and foundation funding The DPH program & CUNY SPH offer periodic awards

Online applications are via the Graduate Center website and are due December 15 th. 1) Determine which Track you would like to apply to; 2) Determine if you have the prerequisites to apply to the Track you are interested in; 3) Contact the Track Coordinator of the Track you are interested in and include: a) Transcripts (unofficial copies are OK for this purpose) b) CV/Resume c) GRE scores (if available at time of inquiry)
