1 Please open up a new ‘Word’ document. At the top please put the title ‘Coins and Banknotes 2’. Put your name below this. During the course of this lesson, you will have some questions to answer. You should type these answers into the document that you have created.

3 A £5 banknote lasts for about one year before it is so damaged that it has to be replaced. A £50 note can last 5 years or more because it is handled much less. The Bank of England shreds old banknotes and puts them into landfill sites.

5 Banknotes in Scotland and Northern Ireland Banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland are permitted to print their own banknotes. 2:Which Scottish and Northern Irish banks print their own notes?

6 Banknotes in Scotland and Northern Ireland Go to www.bankofengland.com Look at ‘Scottish and Northern Ireland banknotes’ in the Banknotes section. Write down any banks that you missed out in the last question.

7 Security features It is important that real banknotes have security features that are difficult to copy. Then people can tell if they have real banknotes or forgeries (fakes). 3:What security features can you spot on a banknote?

8 Security features Visit the Bank of England website: www.bankofengland.co.uk In the Banknotes section look at the Security area. Take a note of any security features that you missed. Make sure you know how to check that a note is real and has the correct features on it.
