Today I have the privilege of kicking off the sale conference with an update and some insights from the home office.

Historic growth Our partner, Brokers International Ltd. has always supported us. They invested millions of dollars in the firm, and continue to do so. I’d be remiss to talk about our successes without mentioning our rich history. It’s been seven years since Brokers International Financial Services was founded. It’s worth taking just a moment to reflect on the growth that we’ve had in our short history. We started in 2006 as a full-service broker dealer and RIA. I joined the firm in At that time we had less than $5 million in assets under management and 30 reps. You can see from this graph, that we’ve had strong, steady growth since our founding in We use the year 2008 as a benchmark, because that’s when the firm’s structure really began to take form. In the five years since then, we’ve grown our assets under management by 440 percent. We’ve increased the number of reps by 414 percent. Those numbers seem hard to believe at first, but when you consider the hard work that’s gone into growing our firm, they make total sense. Our brokerage business at Perhsing was $25 million in 2008, and we’ve growth than to 135 million in 2012 and 210 million so far in 2013.

Staffing Software Products Staffing Software Products And our technology offerings are growing too, because we know that making investments in technology are important to our success. We have established an enterprise agreement with companies such as Morningstar. The Nexus system by GenTech gives us the ability to go paperless, and also offers a lot of additional features that allows us to much more technologically advanced in the future. And there are new things on the horizon from Albridge. Both Albridge and GenTech are presenting at the sales conference, and I encourage you to stop by their booth and visit them. In terms of products, we’ve added numerous third-party money managers for you to consider. We also have added our own Retirement Ally strategies, which have quickly become one of the top choices for our adviser’s clients money.

There’s been a renewed commitment to marketing our organization. You’ve met Rebecca. She is working with me to double our efforts in marketing BIFS to the public. The first few items we are working on are to redefine our brand, build a completely new Website and position the firm for growth through defined marketing initiatives. We currently are in the research and development phase for a new portfolio proposal system. Our goal is bring a new proposal system on board in the first quarter of 2014. We continue to hold our investment advisor academies. These academies are designed for the new investment advisoer represenatives. They offer a comprehsensive training program to help an adviser get the bulding blocks of the advisory business. New this year is the ADVANCED investment adviser academy. The first of which will be October 3 and 4 in Fort Worth, Texas. This academy will cover advanced advisory topics, including topics such as portfolio construction. The advanced academy is invitation only and there are qualifications you must meet to get an invitation. Stay tuned for more information. Finally, with our growth and successes, we have learned what it takes to recruit high quality producers, like yourselves. You have given us a great roadmap for growing the organization. Brokers International Financial Services, LLC Topics in the marketplace Success How advisers can impact retirees Emotions and decision-making Your success is dependant on a lot of factors but the most successful advisors will tell you that everything starts with understanding what is important to your customer. Take care of the customer and everything else will fall into place. Fame, fortune, money and power! Remember though, what you do is very important to this country. You are important to the people who need help with their financial lives. Although you get paid to do what you do, you are a critical service provider. According to a recent study conducted by Franklin Templeton*, 95% percent of people who work with a financial advisor are happy with their retirement income plan. 87% percent who work with an advisor are confident in their plan. And 86% percent or respondents who work with an advisor are more likely to understand their plan, according to the survey. Emotions have the ability to affect your decisions. From the mood you are in at the time you make a decision to the emotions you anticipate when considering the outcome of a decision there is an effect that is felt. Investing is no different for clients in that their emotions are likely to affect their decision making process initially and ongoing. The most essential emotions surrounding retirement income planning—happiness with, confidence in, as well as understanding of the plan--are increased dramatically when the client works with an advisor. You as the advisor need to consider that developing a well thought out plan for your clients which is the roadmap to their goals is one of the most powerful services you can provide for them. You can help a client mitigate the fears and emotions that grab them by have a plan witch can be relied upon to bring them back to their overall goals. Remember that you have a lot of responsibility as an advisor and you truly are a professional as critical to some people lives as their doctors or lawyers. Bringing value to you Although individuals are good, a team typically can do much more than one individual. That’s why at BIFS, we always are looking at being the best team player and partner to you that we can. So, our team got together earlier this year, and we put time, thought and effort into understanding what were the concepts that had allowed us to achieve what we had so far. We took those concepts – with the goal of putting them down on paper – and developed a value proposition. It was a team effort. We got together for an extensive brainstorming session and developed three options. We then voted on those options to see which garnered the most appeal from our staff and stakeholders, which included members of our presidents advisory board.
