Science is Fun! When you are SAFE FIRST
2
Why is important to think about safety before you start doing science?
3
Here are some rules you need to follow while we do science experiments
4
Know what the steps of experiment are BEFORE you begin Read the directions first. If you have questions about what you are supposed do, ASK before you start Make sure you know where you might have a problem
5
Be NEAT Keep your hair and clothes out of the experiment
6
Watch Out If you spill or break something, tell your teacher right away
7
Be safety Equiped Wear the safety stuff you need to be SAFE
8
Don’t Eat it! You should never have food in your lab area
9
Clean it UP Clean your lab area after your experiments are done!

Science Safety Campaigns Divide the students into teams of 2 or 3 Give each group a large sheet of paper Group will campaign to get their Science Safety Rule added to the class contract. – Campaigns should be positive and present why the rule needs to be included in the class contract. – Campaigns can include flyers, buttons, signs, paper hats, logos and mottos pinned to clothing.

Science Exploration Safety Contract I will act responsibly at all times while conducting a science investigation. During a exploration, I will wait for instructions before touching any equipment, chemicals, or other materials I will not eat food, drink beverages, or chew gum during science exploration. I will not use science containers as containers for food or beverages. I will keep my area clean during a lab.
12
I will immediately notify a teacher of any accident (spill, breakage, etc.) or injury (cut, burn, etc.), no matter how trivial it may appear. I know what to do if there is a fire drill during a science exploration. I will handle all living organisms used in a lab activity in a humane manner. I will tie back long hair, remove jewelry and wear shoes with closed ends (toes and heels) while in lab/classroom. I will never work alone in with a science exploration unless instructed to do so.
13
I will not take chemicals or equipment out of the classroom unless instructed to do so. I will dispose of all chemical waste according to teacher’s directions. All chemicals in the laboratory are to be considered dangerous. I will not touch, taste, or smell any chemicals unless specifically instructed to do so.
