2 Map of Kenya Kenya is a country located in Eastern Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean, between Somalia and Tanzania.

3 Research Kenya has a population of 36.6 million. The issue of water scarcity in Kenya has been a problem for decades. There has been a wave of droughts in Kenya. Kenya has poor water supply management, under-investment, unfair water allocation, rampant deforestation, and polluted water supply due to untreated sewage. Only 57% of Kenya’s population has access to an improved drinking water source. 50% of Kenya’s population live in poverty. 17 million people lack safe water. 22 million people have no sanitation services. People of Kenya padlock the water to conserve it. Its only on for a few hours. 4 Short-Term Solutions One idea that could help Kenya in this crisis today this month, or this year would be to use the military to go over to Kenya and clean the water. To do this, we would use different parts of the military to travel to Kenya. They would use different tools to clean Kenya’s water sources. They would keep up with it by returning to Kenya every month and continuing to clean Kenya’s water sources. The second idea that could help Kenya in this crisis today, this month, or this year would be to have volunteers bring over bottles/gallons of purified water. The bottles/gallons of purified water are only going to come from the volunteers right? No! Then how? Gather a bunch of volunteers willing to travel to Kenya monthly to deliver bottles/gallons of purified water. We could then ask schools from all over North America (to start off with) to donate bottles/gallons of purified water to those volunteers. Every month those volunteers will bring the bottles/gallons of purified water to Kenya. Those volunteers will try to make each trip to Kenya bringing over more bottles/gallons of purified water than the last time.

5 Long-Term Solutions One idea that could completely stop the water crisis in Kenya forever would be to have wells dug all over Kenya. Fresh, purified water right in the wells outside or near their house. Women wouldn’t have to walk for great distances just to get water and it would be available to everybody. Wells would last forever. To accomplish this, first we need to make a non-profitable volunteer organization group. Let anyone willing to travel to Kenya every month and dig wells by hand join. Make sure we have more than enough supplies to dig up the wells. Travel to Kenya and we may then start digging the wells. Monthly, we will travel back to Kenya and improve anything already there. The second idea that could completely stop the water crisis in Kenya forever would be to give good quality water purifiers to Kenya. The purifiers would last forever. All the people of Kenya have to do is find a water source and put it into the water purifier. To get this done we could gather determined volunteers that would be willing to combine their money to buy good quality purifiers. The volunteers would use their money to purchase good quality purifiers and would use the military to help deliver them to Kenya.
