2
CFES Mission Statement Carolina Forest Elementary will provide knowledge and skills for future success within a safe and welcoming environment, utilizing parent/teacher communication. We will foster the ability to problem-solve, become independent thinkers, and ensure that students can master, apply and extend knowledge in the real world.
3
Personal Philosophy I am committed to creating an environment that promotes Information Literacy and collaboration; providing materials that enhance the curriculum and promoting literacy; and always puts the stakeholder first.
4
Setting The CFES media center services 750 students and 48 staff members. There is one full-time media coordinator and no media assistant. The media center is located in the center of the school. It has an open floor plan with no doors from inside the school. On the border of the media center and the hallway is a listening center with books on tape and CD. In the front of the media center is the learning area with seven tables and a Promethean Board. Behind these tables is the circulation desk. Down the center of the media center are three tables. One has four laptops which are used as an OPAC station. The other two tables are used for group work, as a study area, or small reading groups with staff or parent volunteers. To the left of the tables is the fiction section. To the right of the tables is the easy section. Behind the easy section is the story area. The non-fiction and reference sections line the back wall starting near the story are and wrap around to the entrance. Behind the circulation desk is the professional collection, seven computers, and an entrance to one of two computer labs in the school

Communication with teachers is primarily through face to face communication as opposed to electronic communication. The openness of the media center allows teachers to stop in and speak to me about material requests or resources needed anytime of the day. All staff, including administration pass through the media center on a daily basis, as it is used as shortcut to the main office and the teachers’ lounge is attached to the media center. This allows for spontaneous communication and collaboration.
