8 Admission Requirements 1. Application & $40 non-refundable fee 2. 3 References (forms provided in packet) 3. Essay (handwritten; form provided in packet) 4. Current Resume (does not need to apply to education field) 5. English Language Proficiency (one of the following) : Degree is from English-Speaking Institution Passing Score on approved English Language Assessment The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. Compass ESL – The Compass ESL test scores for high intermediate are as follows: Reading = 80 to 91 Grammar (writing) = 84 to 93 a writing sample is also used Oral = 82 to 91. Students must submit $29.00 payment to Business Office (Bldg. E) and take paid receipt and testing ticket to Testing Center.

Foreign Language Proficiency for Bilingual or LOTE certifications (One of the following) : Degree is from institution where courses were taught in the same language as certification sought Passing score on approved LOTE Language Assessment The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is the only national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction. ACTFL is an individual membership organization of more than 9,000 foreign language educators and administrators from elementary through graduate education, as well as government and industry. The Texas Oral Proficiency Test™ (TOPT™) program is an extension of and an addition to the TExES and ExCET programs for certification to teach either Spanish or French, or to teach in a Spanish or French bilingual setting. A Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test for Spanish will be provided soon.

Official (sealed) College Transcript(s) Showing: Bachelor’s degree or higher – must be sent directly to ATCP office Approved Foreign Transcript Evaluators: http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/certinfo/forcredevalservice.asp Required Credits in college-level courses:  M ATH, LOTE, AND S CIENCE certification – 18 credits in content area (exception: 24 credit hours in Science for Science 8-12 composite certification) Pre Assessment Content Test Options for Math and Science Content Only (PACT)  B ILINGUAL EC-6 G ENERALIST certification – 9 credits in each core w/1 deficiency (Math, English, Natural Science, and Social Studies)  4-8 G ENERALIST (B ILINGUAL AND S TANDARD ) certification – 9 credits in each core w/1 deficiency (Math, English, Natural Science, and Social Studies)  S PECIAL E D. certification – 9 credits in each core w/1 deficiency (Math, English, Natural Science, and Social Studies) plus 3 credits in Psychology GPA - 2.5 overall or 2.75 on last 60 hours

11 Admission Requirements (continued)  Basic Skills Assessment (one of the following) THEA (within 5 years)  Reading Score of at least 240  Writing Score of at least 240  Math Score of at least 230 (270 required with Math content 4-8 or 8-12) SAT (within 5 years):  At least 500 per section  Combined 1070 ACT (within 5 years):  At least 19 per section  Combined 23 It is your responsibility to provide the program with official copies of your test scores.

12 “Quick” THEA Offered on campus Monday-Friday 8a-8p Monday-Thursday and 8a-5p Friday Last test given at 2p Monday-Thursday and at 11 am on Friday You have 5 hours to complete the test; you determine how much time you spend per section and in what order you take the sections When you’re ready to take the test: Email Amy 48 hours in advance and ask for a THEA ticket OR go to Building E, Advising, and ask for a ticket. On the day you want to take the test go to Building C, Office 231 and get a test ticket from Amy’s mailbox Go to testing center (2 nd floor, C Building), pay fee, take test Fee: $29 (check, money order or credit card; NO CASH) Can only be taken every 30 days It is your responsibility to provide a copy of your THEA scores with your application; we will verify the official scores.
