2 What countries use Child Soldiers? -Mostly from Third world countries -Notably Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, El Salvador Sri Lanka and Uganda

3 Why use Children? Children are easy to intimidate May be only way to survive They are very expendable Make up large percent of population

4 How old are Child Soldiers A child soldier is anybody under 18 Average age is 8

5 Child Army Lords Resistance Army - From Uganda lead by Kony Steals children makes them fight their government International Fleet (I.F) “Your son has been cleared by the I.F selective service” (Card 21) -world government selectively breeds and picks children -uses them to train to fight aliens

6 Reason for Fighting Ender’s Game: “Valentine, too; she was another one of your tricks, to make me remember that I'm not going to school for myself” (Card 244) -Ender is fighting to protect Valentine Real -Fight to avenge fallen family members or protect current ones -Forced to fight -may be only way to survive

7 Training Ender’s Game: “Every day, hours of classes”(Card 45) -Many hours for years of long training and teaching Real: -Little to no training

8 Use of Children Real Used to take bullets Used to blow up mines Ender’s Game “you have been commander of our fleets” (Card 296) -Ender and his friends were used to command and control the fleets of soldiers
