3 Name the complete predicate. 1. Julia plays the drums. 2. Carlos blows on the trumpet.

4 Rules of Action Verbs An action verb is a word that shows action. It tells what the subject of a sentence does or did.

5 Name the action verb in each sentence. 1. Our class played a song. 2. Caroline blew the whistle. 3. Sam banged a gong. 4. Noah rang the bell. 5. Ali struck the cymbal.

6 Replace the underlined verb with a new action verb. 1. Our class played a song. 2. Caroline blew the whistle. 3. Sam banged a gong. 4. Noah rang the bell. 5. Ali struck the cymbal.

7 Write as many different verbs as possible. 1. Maria ______her crayons. 2. Julian ______ his science project. 3. Ellen ______ her paragraphs well.

8 Pull a Verb Activity (if you didn’t do this on Day 1) Students will pull a verb from the bag and act out that verb. The audience will try to guess the action verb being performed.

9 Top Ten Verbs Think of as many different strong verbs as you can. Make a list of the ones you think are super! We will create a Top Ten with the words you have suggested for the 5 th grade.

10 Verb Poem Mrs. Brown Listens, Instructs, Assists, Grades, Monitors, And cares.

11 Your turn: 1. Choose a person who is important to you. 2. Lists things they do-make sure they are actions you can see. 3. Create an action verb poem about your chosen person. 4. Write your poem on the card I give you.

12 Agenda Homework: Animal Alliteration 1. An aardvark asked an ant for his address.
