8. FAQ's About the Textbook & CogLab
4th edition of the textbook is probably 90% the same as the 3rd edition, but the 10% difference may be important on some quizzes or exams. We assume that students have read the material in the 4th edition.
What you need for Psych 355: 4th edition of the Goldstein textbook. An access code (a.k.a. "registration code") for the Coglab website.

9. FAQ's About the CogLab Access Code
The access code comes with the Goldstein textbook in the bundle that is sold by the University Bookstore – but on the internet, some versions of the Goldstein textbook do not come with an access code.
If you have a used 4th edition of the textbook, you can buy an ebook version of the Coglab manual including access code for $ tax at CengageBrain.com.
Several students can share a Coglabs account.

11. INFORMATION ABOUT EXAMINATIONS AND GRADING:
I will drop your lowest quiz score.
If you must miss a quiz or a midterm exam, contact the instructor by telephone, or BEFORE the quiz or exam in order to get permission to take a make up quiz or exam.
Because we post answer keys for exams by Friday on the internet, we cannot let students take a late exam after Thursday of the week on which it is given.
Exception: If you are sick for an entire week, you can receive a different exam from the rest of the class provided you let us know ASAP that you are sick. This make-up exam will be an essay exam.

12. INFORMATION ABOUT EXAMINATIONS AND GRADING:
The midterm exams and the quizzes are not cumulative.
The final examination is cumulative.
Quiz and exam questions are based on material in (i) the textbook; (ii) lectures; (iii) sections; (iv) labs.
You are responsible for all of the assigned reading material even if it was not covered in lecture.
You will often be asked to do a lab before you have heard a lecture or read about the relevant experiments. Do not worry about this. The labs will be graded very leniently. You need to show that you know what happened in the experiment, but not the theory behind it.

I grade on a curve but the curve is based on the overall performance of the class, so I can’t tell you before the end of the quarter what you will need to score to get a particular grade.
Example: Typical class Mean final grade = Number of 4.0’s = 3 Number of flunk (< 0.7) = 0
Example: Very good class Mean final grade = Number of 4.0’s = 5 Number of flunk (< 0.7) = 0
Example: Very bad class Mean final grade = Number of 4.0’s = 1 Number of flunk (< 0.7) = 3

The class is presently full but I will be admitting additional students if some students drop this class. Priority will be given in the following order:
Psychology majors who have completed Psych 355 prerequisites: At least 2.0 grade in Psych 202 and 209.
Non-psych majors who have completed the Psych 355 prerequisites or who are grad students.
Everybody else
Students are admitted in the order that their s requesting admission arrived in my mail box (the s have dates).
