I am 11 years old. I was born in Zarubkino on November, 7, 2002. My family is not big: my father, my mother, my elder brother and me. My family is great and friendly. I am happy to have such amazing family! I’m in the 6 th Grade. We are only three of us. I’ve got a lot of interesting subjects and school clubs at school. The most popular club is Sports Club. I like to play computer games, to watch TV. My hobbies are learning English and walking with my friends. I love learning to speak and understand English. I want to speak English as my role model Shchukina Katya and visit Great Britain one day. I think my dream will come true! Lately we created a newspaper “Together” in English where we tell about our life at school and after lessons. I’m a member of this newspaper and I’m responsible for this issue. You can read about celebrating Christmas and New Year in our school, the competition to St Valentine’s Day and our former pupil Shchukina Katya, a student at the Pedagogical Institute at the faculty of foreign languages in Saransk. She is also from Zarubkino. We are proud of her. I think you will enjoy reading our newspaper!

2 New Year and Christmas in our School. C hristmas is one of the most important holidays in Christianity. A lot of people consider that Jesus Christ was born on this day many years ago. It’s a sacred festival that’s why orthodox believers gather in the churches to attend the feast rite on Christmas. But in other countries Christmas is celebrated in a different way. For example in the USA Christmas day is celebrated on December 25. On this day they decorate a Christmas tree and give presents to each other. All children wait for Santa Claus who will come in sleigh and give presents. Pupils from 3rd and 4th Grades wrote letters to Santa Claus. We are glad to tell you that Nadya Uchambrina got her skates as a Christmas present from Santa Claus. The Best Letters to Santa Claus

3 They studied in our school and got a good knowledge in English. We are proud of them. The Best Pupils At the instance of my favorite teacher I try to tell a little about myself. I am Shchukina Katya and I think that most of you know me and remember. I was born on the 6th of April 1992. Like many other children when I was a child I went to a kindergarten. At the age of 6 I went to school, I was very proud when I became a pupil. But very soon I realized that I had to work hard if I wanted my parents to be pleased with me. I finished school in 2007. My favorite subject at school was English of course, I liked to study English. I’m grateful to my English teacher in this, she has brought me such love for this subject. Elena Ilinichna is a wonderful person who always supported me. I love her not only as a teacher but also as a person. After graduating from school I went to college in Zubova Polyana, there I studied for 5 years. There I met fine people with whom I communicate until now. Presently I’m a second year student at the Pedagogical Institute at the faculty of foreign languages in Saransk. I also learn the German language and I like it. After all to learn another language, another traditions and customs is always interesting and cognitive. I like studying here, all teachers know their onions and I’m sure that I will be a good specialist. I am an outgoing person and I like communicating with people and I have many friends at the Institute and out of it. When we meet we talk a lot about life, our problems. In my spare time I like walking with my friends. Usually we go to the Pushkin’s park or to the skating rink. Sometimes I like to stay at home alone, especially when I need some relaxation. Then I listen to music, watch television or read books. I would like to improve my English and go sightseeing. I am planning to visit America and I hope I will be able to realize my dream so I am trying hard to study English. Our guest is Shchukina Katya today Shchukina Katya

4 St. Valentine's Day has roots in several different legends. One of the earliest popular symbols of the day is Cupid, the Roman god of Love, who is represented by the image of a young boy with a bow and arrow. Three hundred years after the death of Jesus Christ, the Roman emperors still demanded that everyone believe in the Roman gods. Valentine, a Christian priest, had been thrown in prison for his teachings. On February 14,Valentine was beheaded. The night before he was executed, he wrote the jailer's daughter a farewell letter signing it, «From Your Valentine. Another legend tells us that this same Valentine, well-loved by all, wrote notes from his jail cell to children and friends who missed him. St. Valentine's Day is now a day for sweethearts. It is the day that you show your friend or loved one that you care. You can send candy to someone you think is special. Or you can buy valentines with messages in them. Kasatkin Lev is the winner among the boys. 7 pupils from our school voted for him. Lev is in the 5th Grade. He is very kind and smart boy. He likes Physical Education and Information Technology. St Valentine’s Day There was a competition on February, 14 “The Loveliest Girl”, “The Most Handsome Boy” in our school. Meet the winners!
