3 Volcanoes 1.What is a Volcano?
Volcano (from the Latin Vulcanus is the name of the Roman god of fire)- is a place on the Earth’s surface, which throws out lava, volcanic gases, pyroclastic material.

4 2.Construction of a volcano.
Volcanoes 2.Construction of a volcano. Volcano has: -magma chamber, which is a source of magma -channels through which magma comes out -lava -other material ejected during eruptions

5 Volcanoes 3. Types of volcanoes. There are three kinds of volcanoes: -active volcanoes -dormant volcanoes - dead volcanoes Active volcanoes often erupt.Dormant volcanoes are not usually dangerous but they erupt from time to time. Dead volcanoes don”t erupt for a long time and probably will not explode anymore.

6 Volcanoes 4.Flowing lava. Magma is hot. It‘s temperature is about 1200*C. It glows red. From the cooling lava gases come out.

7 Volcanoes 5. Kilauea. There is a Kilauea on Hawaii islands . This is one of the five volcanoes on the islands. Kilauea is the most active volcano. It is also the most visited volcano on the Earth. It appeared on the Earth years ago.Since 1983 it constantly erupts. It can throw lava up to 600 meters . According to the legend Pele, ( the goddess of volcanoes )lives in Kilauea.

8 Volcanoes 6. Volcanoes in the world. MOUNT PELEE, Martinique, 1902 eruption 8th of May 1902 destroyed the town and killed more than people.

9 Volcanoes 6. Volcanoes in the world. C.d MAUNA LOA, Hawaii , USA, 1984 it’s the largest Volcano on the Earth which has been, active for thousands of years. Its last eruption was from 24th March to 15th April in No one died. Previous eruptions destroyed the entire village.

10 Volcanoes 6. Volcanoes in the world. C.d KRAKATAU, Indonesia, 1883 Krakatau eruption was a series of violent explosions, which could be heard in Perth, Australia. Volcano threw solids at a height of over 30 km.

11 Volcanoes 6. Volcanoes in the world. C.d MOUNT PINATUBO, Philippines, 1991 Violent eruption of the volcano blew up almost 150 meters of its top. It threw out dust and gases to the height of 40 km.

12 Volcanoes 6. Volcanoes in the world. C.d TARAWERA, New Zealand, 1886 This volcano erupted in three places. It killed about 120 people.

13 Volcanoes 6. Volcanoes in the world. C.d GALUNGGUNG, Indonesia, 1982
Outbreak was from April 1982 to January people were killed. Two planes nearly crashed when they flew into a cloud of ash. Their engines stopped working.

14 Volcanoes 7.The effects of volcanic eruptions.
Volcanic eruptions cause: a lot of damage the formation of hot clouds avalanches and mudflows the appearance or disappearance of volcanic islands

15 Volcanoes 8.Research scientists.
Scientists report that the eruptions are usually preceded by warning signs for example : tremors gases emission changes in the shape of volcanoes But some types of volcanoes can erupt without warning.
