1 1 Quote of the Day “A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.”  —Douglas MacArthur. OCF will be tonight around 6:30 before CO meetings

Analysis: Al-Qaeda offshoots in the region are becoming bolder and having significant impacts to anti-terrorism policy worldwide, especially with respect to Africa. Boko Harm Islamic Fighters

7 7 S2- Current events In response to tougher US lead UN sanctions against its nuclear test. North Korea ended its armistice and non-aggression pact last week with South Korea. The armistice is what ended the Korean War in the 50s. Tensions are high on the Korean peninsula once again. Analysis: I believe it is just “all talk” rhetoric to solidify new leader Kim Jong-un’s rule after taking over North Korea after his father, Kim Jong-il died.

15 15 AAR Basic Lab 27FEB13 Ambush Improves 1. Issue: Location of the objective Discussion: due to the placement of the objective it was not possible to maintain visual contact with the objective without being seen by the OPFOR. Recommendation: Use the terrain of Chestnut Ridge to maximize cover and concealment around the OBJ. However there is not much cover and concealment at Chestnut Ridge so this may not be able to be fixed 2. Issue: Only ran one lane Discussion: Due to time constraints we were only able to run one practical lane at Lab. Some cadets felt that it would be beneficial to run more shorter lanes IOT allow more cadets to rotate into leadership roles Recommendation: We could issue supplies before lab so that we are ready to run lanes immediately following FF 3. Issue: Cadets did not know what to do with the detonation cord following the detonation of the claymore Discussion: Cadets did not know what to do with the detonation cord following the detonation of the claymore. This was not covered in the claymore class in the previous lab Recommendation: Teach a class to fix this issue Sustains 1. Ran one in depth lane so cadets had a greater understanding of how to set up and execute an ambush 2. Training at Chestnut Ridge rather than the Memorial parking lots 3. MS4's were knowledgeable on the ambush lane and were able to answer any questions by lab participants.

Phase 1 will conclude with the rehearsals complete on 11MAR13. Phase 2: Phase begins with FF at the parking lot in Hillendale Park. MS3 cadets will form up in prospective teams-squads- platoons. cCrisler will have TACs inspect equipment IAW the packing list (see below). The entirety of the packing list will be checked, each cadet will be PCI by a TAC to ensure there are no deficiencies. cPisano will take the OPFOR to their assigned position and ensure that the objective is correct. Phase will end once all equipment is issued and OPFOR are in place. Phase 3: Phase begins with movement to the AA. The Cordon and Search lane will be conducted, and the conclusion of this phase will be the end of the execution of the mission, which will be determined by cPisano. Phase 4: Phase begins with the AAR and ends with dismissal of all personnel and recovery of all equipment. MS3s will download weapons and gear into transportation prior to the AAR. Outcomes: MS3s are successfully trained in Cordon and Search planning, TLPs, and conducting infantry tactics. MS4s successfully trained in planning and conducting Cordon and Search lane and evaluating cadets’ performance therein.
