Objectives 1. Identify the parts of a. prism 2. Find the lateral and total. surface area and volume. of a prism.

Prism Terms B = surface area of 1 of the bases L = lateral area - sum of each lateral face (doesn’t include area of bases) P = Perimeter h = height

Lateral Area = Perimeter x height height Perimeter Total Surface Area = +  Bases LA +

L = Ph h P T =Ph + BB B B

Example 10 4 3 Find the total surface area of the right quadrilateral prism. T = Ph + 2B T = 14(10) + 2(12) T = 140 + 24 T = 164

12 4 3 Find the surface area of the prism. Surface Area = 192 sq. units T = Ph + 2B T = 14(12) + 2(12)

Volume = The amount of space in a figure V = Bh 7 12 7 49(12) 588 units 3 V = (Area of base) h
