3. ANIMAL FARM (1954) The first British feature length animated entertainment film released in 1954. Created by the Halas & Batchelor Company. Based on the 1945 novel by George Orwell.

4. JOHN HALAS (1912 - 1995) Born in Budapest, Hungary. Studied painting. Opened his own animation studio in 1932 in Hungary, but struggled for work.

5. Born in Watford, England. An experienced animator/illustrator, she began working with Halas in 1938 in Hungary. She and Halas later married. JOY BATCHELOR (1914 - 1991)

8. ANIMAL FARM Based on the novel by the British writer George Orwell (1903-1950). An allegory of the Russian Revolution told with animals published in 1945. It is strong critic of totalitarianism. Released at a time of anxiety about the rise of Communism after the Second World War.

9. ANIMAL FARM Production took around three years. Released theatrically in 1954. Halas & Batchelor became the largest studio in Europe. At the height of production 80 people worked on the film.

12. The C.I.A provided $300,000 out of a cost of over $500,000 towards the budget of the film.
