4 Pysaty The word comes from the verb pysaty, " to write"

5 In Pre-Christian times Ukrainians worshipped the: Sun god (Dazhboh)- Dazhboh loved birds !

6 Humans could not catch the birds, but they did manage to obtain the bird eggs

7 – the eggs were magical – a source of life

8 Superstitions Pysanky held powerful magic associated with it Protect families from evil spirits Protect home from catastrophe Cure diseases
