5 THEMIS/GBO Engineering Peer Review CTR - 5 UCB, Oct 17, 2003 Auroral Zone Magnetic Phenomena

6 THEMIS/GBO Engineering Peer Review CTR - 6 UCB, Oct 17, 2003 Magnetometer Driving Requirements

7 THEMIS/GBO Engineering Peer Review CTR - 7 UCB, Oct 17, 2003 Magnetometer Deployment  UCLA is providing 20 magnetometers: 10 EPO, 8 GBO, 2 spares  Delivery dates EPO :5 in summer ’04 5 in summer ’05 GBO:Prototype in fall ‘03 5 in fall ’04 5 in fall ’05  Selection of EPO magnetometer sites Competition with infrastructure (power, communication) and location (quiet, uniform distribution of sites) used as factors in selection  Other deliverables Magnetometer user manuals Web pages including data servers Calibration data Advice on appropriate teacher lesson plans

8 THEMIS/GBO Engineering Peer Review CTR - 8 UCB, Oct 17, 2003  UCLA ground-based magnetometer is ideally suited to supplying the measurements needed by the THEMIS project  The magnetometer design and the team is at a high level of readiness to support the THEMIS project  The magnetometer team is excited by the opportunity to involve students in the scientific discoveries of THEMIS through the acquisition of magnetic records Conclusions
