Chemical Treatments using aromatic hydrocarbons such as Xylene Mechanical Interventions using Wireline, Coiled Tubing or Hydraulic Workover Heated Fluids All of these solutions have had varying levels of success, but industry experience shows that the use of heat, by itself or in conjunction with other methods, greatly increases success rates in paraffin removal.

The use of heated fluids has been a universally accepted method of treating paraffin as can be evidenced by the widespread use of Hot Oil Units in the industry since the late ’40’s or early ’50’s. ….but the existent technology presented serious issues:

The heating mechanism is mechanical and completely flameless These units are the only Class 1 Division 2 compliant thermal units in the industry The units are very efficient and have a small footprint, so they are ideal for offshore use. Fluid temperatures are easily and completely controlled

The TH450 Heats 100 barrels of diesel 100 degrees over ambient in 80 minutes. (1.25 bbls./min.) Weight: 13,800 pounds. Dimensions: L=10’, W=8’, H=8’6” The TH650 Heats 120 barrels of diesel 100 degrees over ambient in 60 minutes. (2.0 bbls./min.) Weight: 16,500 pounds. Dimensions: L=12’, W=8’, H=8’6” Patent Pending

High Pressure Thermal Fluid Pump Skid Gardner Denver TEE 10K pump Weight: 11,500 pounds. Dimensions: L=8’, W=8’, H=5’10” Insulated Fluid Tank System 3 Compartments, 88 barrel capacity, multi-valves Insulated for maximum heat retention Weight: 9,500 pounds (empty). Dimensions: L=16’, W=8’3”, H=8’8”

Multifunctional Advanced Remediation Tool DPV supported Coil Tubing operations using the MARS tool to unplug a 10 mile 6” pipeline. The line was washed in one continuous run to 23,000’, setting a world record and restoring flow for 1,000 BOPD. Apache Eugene Island 173G

EEL REEL DPV supported CETCO EEL REEL operations to unplug a 10 mile 6” pipeline. The line was washed to 25,000’, breaking our previous world record and restoring flow for 3,500 BOPD. Fieldwood Energy Main Pass 310A

ISS Hydraulic Workover DPV supported ISS HWO on operations to unplug 19,000’ 6” flexible flowline in deep- water operations. Heat was used to remove the plug at 9,500’, completing the project well under AFE and projected timeline. Murphy Oil Medusa SS#5

DPV positioned heating equipment at each end of a 9,000’ subsea flowline that was experiencing restricted flow and was inaccessible to mechanical remediation. Alternating the flow direction of the heated diesel, the line was cleared restoring full flow and eliminating backpressure on the existing wells. Apache Ship Shoal 178A

In some cases where blockage was limited or tight restrictions existed on available space, DPV has successfully restored well flow by injecting heated diesel and other fluids down the tubing, permitting the solution to soak, and flowing back the well to flush the tubing. 17 When wireline and pumping methods were not adequate (such as complete blockage of the tubing) and in cases where space and weight have not been a barrier, DPV has successfully supported wellbore cleanouts using Coiled Tubing. 21 Deck Space Issues? Limited Crane Capacity? Budgetary Constraints?Electrical Code / Placement Issues?

Wellbore cleanouts at controlled wireline speeds, removing paraffin, asphaltines and other debris from production tubing. Dislodging obstacles stuck in wellbore, operating sliding sleeves, etc. Running calipers, gyros, or memory tools Paraffin solvents, crystal modifiers, friction reducers, and gel sweeps designed for an oil base environment and high temperatures.

The Thruster provides jet action ahead of Flo-Jet tool, assuring the tubing is cleaned to the wall. Jet action creates turbulence for blasting deposits loose and fluid agitation for chemical effectiveness. Flo-Jet deploys through low profile nipples and across gas lift mandrels. Smaller footprint than CT, more cost effective. Heavy wire for strong, secure retrieval and fishing operations.
