Making A Pie Chart. Favourite Holiday Country Italy France U.S.A Spain Scotland

The Car Survey. A group of people were asked what make of car they would most like to own from a choice of 5 makes. The results are shown below: MakeNumber of Votes Ford20 Nissan26 Rover18 Fiat14 Vauxhall12 Total. Calculate how many people voted in the survey. 90

Creating A Pie Chart. MakeNumber of Votes Ford20 Nissan26 Rover18 Fiat14 Vauxhall12 Total.90 Your task will be to turn this table of results into a pie chart. The first thing we have to do is to calculate the angle needed in the pie chart for each car.

Calculating The Angles. You know that 20 out of the ninety people asked voted for Ford. If twice or three times as many voted for Ford what would happen to the angle ? The angle would double or treble etc. What is this an example of ? Direct proportion. To calculate the angle consider the following:

If 90 votes are represented by an angle of 360 o. What angle represents 20 votes ? What two things are mentioned? VotesAngle. What two numbers go together? 90360 Do you want to calculate an angle or a number of votes ? An angle. 20 X o If the votes double or triple what happens to the angle? Double or triple as well. Now cross multiply and solve. The angle is 80 o

Now complete the table below for all the angles: MakeVotesAngle Ford2080 o Nissan26 Rover18 Fiat14 Vauxhall12 Total90 104 o 72 o 56 o 48 o 360 o Now we can draw the pie chart.

Creating The Pie Chart. Draw a reasonably large circle and mark the radius as shown below:

Using the radius as the zero degree line, measure an angle of 80 o for the Ford votes. 80 o Ford 20 Now using the red line as the new zero degree line measure an angle of 104 o for Nissan 104 o Nissan 26 Now using the blue line draw an angle of 72 o for Rover. Rover 14 Now an angle of 56 o for Fiat should leave you with 48 o for Vauxhall. Fiat 14 Vauxhall 12 Give your pie chart a title to finish. Most popular make of car.

Making Your Own Pie Chart. Now create your own pie chart using the data below: A group of people were asked for their favourite country to go on holiday to. The results are shown in the table below: CountryNumber Italy 6 France10 U.S.A 8 Spain14 Scotland22
