Why would a consumer write a Letter of Complaint? -

Letter Writing - - A letter of complaint should always have the same layout. - There is nine steps

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 The sender’s address and phone number The date the letter was written The name and address of the recipient Salutation/Greeting Introduction The main body of the letter Follow up Close Signature of sender and title or position (if any) Letter Writing A business letter may also contain a fax and e-mail address and a VAT registration number This date must include the day, month and year Dear Sir, or Madam, Dear Mr or Ms, Dear Mary or Seán This sets out what the letter is about and why it was written The important information: details, descriptions, causes, problems, and should be in paragraphs States what the sender would like to happen as a result of sending the letter. (E.g. A reply or an agreement to a meeting Yours sincerely (if you know the person), Yours Faithfully (if you do not know the person) you are writing to E.g. Nora Burke, Sales Manager.

Letter of Complaint -A letter of complaint should contain the following: - Details of the purchase: Item/service purchased, name of the seller, the price and the date of the purchase. - Details of the complaint and the reasons for it. - Details of action required: replacement, repair or refund. - Copies of proof of purchase: receipt, credit card slip etc.

Dear Sir, I am writing to you in connection with a faulty D.V.D. player which I purchased from your shop. (A) On 25 April 2006, I ordered and had delivered a Sony D.V.D. player from your store which was priced at €390. (B) This recorder continues to eject D.V.D.’s. I have been unable to watch a number of movies that I had rented as a result. To Do.. -Tom Murphy of 6 Bridge Street, Granard, bought a new colour television set, SAMO Model P107, from Susan Tarpey, Manager of S&S Arkin Ltd of Dublin Road, Longford, on Saturday, 7 September 2006. He paid €399 for the television set.. He discovered on bringing it home that the sound did not work. -You, as Tom Murphy, are asked to write a suitable letter of complaint to S&S Arkin Ltd. If S&S Arkin Ltd does not satisfy Mr. Murphy, suggest two other steps that Mr Murphy could take.

To Do… -Peter Cooney of 16 Castle Street, Ennis, bought a new ‘Roller’ bicycle from Frank Castle, Manager of The Bike Shop Ltd of Nenagh Road, Limerick, on Saturday, 11 April 2014. He paid €179 by cheque. Within a few days’ use, the bicycle started to give trouble. It made a lot of noise when he was cycling and the chain seemed to slip every time he went up a hill. After a week he had to get off the bike and walk up every hill with it. He was very disappointed. -You, as Peter Cooney, are asked to write a suitable letter of complaint to The Bike Shop Ltd. What proof of purchase could Peter Cooney include in his letter of complaint?
