2 It’s all in the name! Prefixes: Suffixes:
Cirro/us – means “curl of hair”, high altitude Alto – means “tall”, medium altitude No prefix – low altitude Nimbo – means rain Suffixes: Cumulus – means heap or pile, fluffy clouds Stratus – means layers

3 Altitude = Composition
Cirro/us – high altitude clouds are made purely of tiny ice crystals Alto – medium altitude clouds are usually mixed liquid water and ice crystals No prefix – low altitude clouds are made of only liquid water Nimbostratus – liquid water drops get too big and fall to the surface
