1 Rotarians in Action- 2014 Latrine & Sanitation / Hygiene Project Goals, Logistics & Scope of Work The Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Santiago Monumental (District 4060) and the Rotary District 7710 will join forces again to reduce gastrointestinal diseases caused by current sanitary conditions. The dates are January 25 – February 1, 2014 The project will take place in villages near Santiago, Dominican Republic The project scope is to provide the following for 65 family home sites – Construct 65 latrines – Provide 65 Water Sanitation filter systems – Provide 65 Hand Washing Stations – Educate & Showcase proper hand and food washing plus basic sanitation skills – Provide local community families with needed supplies (mosquito nets, linens, soap, books and toys) The Santiago Monumental Rotary Club (local) will: – Identify the 65 households in coordination with local community Rotary Corp members – Engage the local community to dig the latrine holes – Fabricate the modular concrete flooring & water closet stool – Purchase latrine housing materials – Purchase water filters parts – Purchase wash stations parts – Supply tools required – Train the local community in use and maintenance of latrines, water filters and wash stations – Arrange for housing and meals - Saturday night January 25 th through Saturday morning February 1 st – Arrange for local transportation The Rotary District 7710 will: – Provide $10.5k (from 46 clubs) to the matching Global Grant & DR funds = $30k Project Funds Club support checks should be sent to Leigh Hudson – Provide additional $5k+ (from 46 clubs) for local community needed supplies The Rotarians of District 7710 (visiting) will: – Supply 40 Rotarians from District 7710 – Provide their own air travel to and from Raleigh & Santiago – Provide funds for common fund - local group travel, meals, etc. – Assemble and install the latrine housing – Assemble and install water filter systems – Assemble and install hand and food wash stations – Stay in provided housing

2 Rotarian in Action - 2014 Santiago Latrine & Sanitation / Hygiene Project Projected Cost for 7710 Rotarians Air Travel (RDU to Santiago) – $700 to $800 – Jan 25 th RDU to STI; Feb 1 st return to RDU Common Funds – $300 to $400 – Local transportation, meals, etc. Misc. meals, gifts, Presidente, etc. – $100 to $200 Total – approximately $1,100 to $1,400
