On the backdrop of the turbine blow-out that happened on Oso gas compression platform (RG), MPNU decided to carry out an EIT study on Edop’s Injection Gas Compressors (IGC A/B), to determine the modifications that would be required to forestall such an occurrence on QI. From the EIT recommendations, the following modifications are required: Segregation of IGC A/B starter gas exhaust lines from existing LP vent header, and routing them to a safe location. Installation of flame arrestors on new IGC A/B exhaust vent lines. Installation of shutdown valves (SDV’s) upstream of IGC A/B starter gas control valves to provide automatic cut-off of starter gas supply to the system in the event of starter speed inhibition system failure. Installation of device such as lube oil flow indicator or a means of confirming lube oil flow after start-up and at any other time. The device is to be installed such that it can be read from outside IGC A/B housing. Due to the reduction in MPN QIT’s daily crude production as a result of the reduced OPEC quota, QIT no longer produces enough fuel gas to supply all fuel gas users at the QIT. This has resulted in use of alternative fueling (diesel) of the QIT generators. Field Operations Technical Engineering (FOTE) carried out a conceptual study to evaluate different options with a view of identifying the most economical, effective and efficient way of increasing the fuel gas availability at QIT while still keeping the OPEC oil production quota and thereby reducing or eliminating the diesel usage at QIT. To achieve this, FOTE has identified an option involving a means of increasing the overall QIT GOR while the 1st stage separator pressure of 30 Psig is being maintained by injecting up to 15 MMscfd of gas into the following Main Oil Lines (MOL): 16” Ekpe-Asabo oil pipeline 24” Ubit-QIT oil pipeline MPN has carried out pipeline hydraulic analysis for these oil lines (with the injected gas) and predicted that the potential of slug flow in the incoming pipeline is not likely. Therefore, PEL’s scope on this project is limited to the detailed design for the piping modifications required on Ubit and Ekpe platforms to enable connection of gas stream from a reasonable source to an appropriate point on the MOL location Detailed Design for Ubit & Ekpe Gas Spiking Project Client Name: MPN QIT, Eket Location: Ubit & Ekpe Offshore Platform Date: May 2003 – July 2003 Contract Type: Reimbursable, Detail Engineering Client Contact: Jim Morris A Mark of great impact 35

The Obigbo North field has an existing Water Injection Plant (WIP) with an installed capacity of 15Mbwpd for pressure maintenance. The WIP uses source water from 2 water wells. The Field Development Plan (FDP) of 1997 identified an additional requirement of 20Mbwpd. It also identified Produced Water Re-Injection (PWRI) as an economic alternative to the existing source water injection and produced water disposal. The PWRI will increase oil production in Obigbo North, replace its produced water disposal at Bonny Terminal with a more environmentally friendly alternative and create more ullage in the pipeline trunklines. It will also alleviate the produced water processing capacity of Bonny Terminal in the long term. The FDP recommended this pilot scheme to quantify and thus reduce the risks that may be associated with a full-scale implementation of PWRI. The design scope for the project is to carry out detail design engineering and preparation of Approved-for-Construction drawings, construction workscope and materials take-off for Separators and Skimmer hook-up to existing facilities.
