Climate Action Growth, Jobs, Green Economy Internalizing the cost of GHG emissions: the EU ETS stimulates eco- industries such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, recycling etc. which help reduce emissions Price signal spurs investment in eco-innovation, which in turn: helps companies save money (through better resource and energy efficiency) creates jobs in Europe (because it replaces imported fossil fuels with indigenously produced clean energy) creates a first-mover advantage for European low-carbon industry worldwide The net effect of climate action on employment and economic growth is clearly positive Mitigation today is cheaper than adaptation tomorrow

Climate Action Employment - Renewable Energy as example 2005 – 2009: More than 300 000 new jobs in the Renewable Energy Sector alone! In 2010 the Renewable Energy Sector (RES) provided 1.1 million jobs This is an increase of 25% compared to 2009 (912 000 jobs) – in the middle of the financial and economic crisis! Climate Action 20-20-20 Targets Integrated approach to climate and energy policy that aims to combat climate change, increase the EU’s energy security and strengthen its competitiveness. Headline targets of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth - Meeting the 20% renewable energy target could have a net effect of creating around 417 000 additional jobs - Achieving the 20% energy efficiency improvement in 2020 is forecast to boost employment by some 400 000 jobs.

Climate Action EU Support to Green Jobs &Growth – Proposals for 2014-2020 Mainstreaming the climate-related share of the EU budget - raising to 20% of the whole (at least €200bn for climate-related expenditures) Horizon 2020: a third of the allocated budget for this research and innovation programme should be climate- related expenditure Cohesion policy Connecting Europe Facility Greening of the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy)
