2 Description of the initiative Saramacca - Suriname The organizing principle of this project is the promotion of sustainable agriculture through waste recycling for compost

3 Description of the initiative 1)Introduction of recycling of residential and commercial food waste Thirty-five percent of solid waste in Greater Paramaribo consists of fresh fruits and vegetables Potential amount of waste that can be composted per day is 11 ton, which can generate 2,5 ton compost per day Partnership between government and waste collectors to promote recycling for compost

4 Description of the initiative 2)Awareness raising on recycling and suistainable soil and crop management with compost Public education about the benefits of recycling food waste for compost Set up demonstration sites to showcase the benefits of compost for agriculture

5 Description of the initiative 3)Setting-up commercial composting plant to facilitate transition to sustainable agriculture
