4 YOUTH WORKERS DEFINITIONS OF RECORDED OUTCOMES o A way of evidencing movement by a young person o A recognition of a young persons development o A valuable process of reflection for the young person that is facilitated by a youth worker

5 YOUTH WORKERS DEFINITIONS OF RECORDED OUTCOMES o A way of understanding the process that a young person has travelled o A good evaluation toolkit for youth workers o It improves the quality of youth work, ensuring that processes have outcomes

6 DEFINITION A recorded outcome is the significant step that a young person has taken as a result of a youth work intervention” (Recognising young peoples achievement: Internet)

7 WHAT SHOULD RECORDED OUTCOMES SHOW? A recorded outcome must: o Provide evidence to show actions undertaken by young people, recording progression and distance travelled o Provide evidence of the benefit derived by the young person as a result of a youth work intervention

8 WHAT SHOULD RECORDED OUTCOMES SHOW? o Be evidenced by a youth worker or awarding body o Be meaningful – not tokenistic, it must confirm a young persons achievement and the young person should understand their own progression o Be recognisable

10 A RECORDED OUTCOME DOES/IS NOT o Have to subscribe to a specific format o Necessarily lead to an accredited outcome o Have to be measured against a declared or planned curriculum, although this would be good practice o Tokenistic gesture

13 RECORDED OUTCOMES TOOLKITS o Young people’s evaluations – based on experiential learning o Witness statements o Photos, diaries, media statements, certificates, video, scrapbooks etc

14 WHY RECORD OUTCOMES? o Evidence based youth work – links to government and local youth work strategies o Benefits young people – self esteem, belief, motivation o Benefits the organisation – raises organisation profile, opportunities for funding o Supports Quality Assurance processes o Accountability
