7 The computer mouse: tells the computer what you want it to do!

10 Holding the Mouse: Directions: 1.Hold mouse between thumb and ring/pinky fingers. 2.Rest index and middle fingers on the two buttons. 3.Relax your palm on the mouse. 4.Use your palm to move the mouse, not your fingers. 5.The arrow will jump quickly - you do not need to move the mouse very far.

11 Left Click: Use your index finger. Single Click - Push down once and release. Use Click to select screen items with the pointer. Double Click - Press the button twice quickly. Do not lift your finger from the mouse and try not to move the mouse between clicks. Use Double-click to open programs. Click & Drag - Point the mouse at the item. Press and hold the mouse-button. Move the pointer elsewhere, the item will follow. Note – “Right Click” (middle finger) opens special menus in programs.

14 Vocabulary: 6 Terms to Know 1.Desktop – the display on your monitor 2.Wallpaper – the background to the display on your monitor 3.Icons – pictures that represent a program 4.Start Button – opens a menu 5.Menu – a list of options, features, or commands 6.Recycle Bin – temporary storage for files that have been deleted in a file manager by the user, but not yet permanently erased from the file system

17 Keyboard Basics: Shift Key To Type A Capital Letter, Press And Hold The “Shift” Key While Typing The Letter N.B.: Press and hold “Shift” and type a number at the top of the keyboard to type the special characters above the numbers! ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( )

18 To type A LOT OF CAPITAL LETTERS, press the “Caps Lock” and then press again to turn it off. KEYBOARD BASICS: Caps Lock Key

19 Use Backspace to move the cursor backwards and delete text. Keyboard Basics: Backspace Key Backspace erases mistakes!

20 Keyboard Basics: Delete Key Use Delete to erase text after the cursor.

21 Keyboard Basics: Enter Key Use Enter move down a line (like RETURN on a typewriter).
