2 KON is a national honor society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) Established February 21, 1990 consolidating Kappa Omicron Phi (founded in 1922) Omicron Nu (founded in 1912) Headquartered in East Lansing, Michigan Recognizes students in the Human Sciences Over 100 active chapters and 150,000 members Nearly $35,000 in scholarships, grants, and awards given to members every year

3 Empowered leaders who use an integrative approach to enhance quality of living through excellence in scholarship, leadership, and research.

4 Membership in Kappa Omicron Nu National Honor Society is available to majors in academic programs including (but not limited to) athletic training design education exercise science family & consumer sciences financial planning food science & human nutrition gerontology health sciences human development interior design human environment kinesiology leadership merchandising mgmt policy analysis & management social work textiles & apparel wellness

5 Provides Recognition and honor Lifelong opportunities for networking Personal growth Professional growth through education and service Allows participation Local and national activities to enhance leadership and management skills Encourages collaboration with Faculty Campus/community organizations Other ACHS certified honor societies

6 Students meeting the following criterion are invited to join and represent KON: Declared as a major in the human sciences Must have completed 45 semester hours or equivalent A minimum 3.0 GPA Top 25% in their academic program

7 Engage in community service [list recent chapter activities] big event volunteers fundraising for special events collaborate with … for various events Promote national initiatives set forth annually by the national office and board of directors Social Responsibility - Taking It to the Streets Childhood obesity (Rock Your Tastebuds, Jump with Jill) Bullying Kids and Careers (9-12 years old) Take online leadership courses Attend ScholarCon and Conclave Serve as a student KON Board member

8 Students in the chapter are encouraged to work with program faculty for submission to URJHS Research manuscripts Research papers Research reports The URJHS was organized as a refereed publication in 2001 by the Undergraduate Research Community for the Human Sciences Ongoing submissions and acceptance dates for review

9 Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) certification Scholarships, fellowships, and grants Internship scholarships Publication opportunities – Undergraduate Research Journal for the Human Sciences (URJHS), Kappa Omicron Nu FORUM, Kappa Omicron Nu blogs A national network of colleagues Local and national leadership opportunities Knowledge transfer – leadership knowledge, training, and skills Graduate Program Showcase – directory of institutions and programs Preference for Federal Jobs – entry at GS-7 level (TWO pay grades higher!) if all other requirements are met – Enter Kappa Omicron Nu membership on application
