4-H Teams for Social Media: Youth - Adult Partners August 22 – 24, 2013 OSU Campus, Weatherford Hall & State Fairgrounds

The Purpose of Social Media Teams is to HAVE FUN, and… Establish strong models of youth-adult partnerships in 4-H program management Join 4-H staff in having a positive impact on 4-H through social media to enhance county/program communication Involve new, diverse volunteers Recognize and apply best practices for social media. Learn and practice technical skills Prepare teams for mid- management volunteer roles in 4-H counties or programs

Space is Limited for Pilot Workshop About 10 teams Suggested Team = 1 adult & 2 youth Others can join team back home 4-H staff are an intricate part of the social media team to focus 4-H communications, select priority media projects, create opportunities, etc.! When critical communication decisions are needed, 4-H staff respond

4-H Media Team members might be found among…? County ambassadors Co 4-H promotion committee New 4-H alumni Tech corporations Retirees 4-H youth (age 12 +) Science teams Community Service committees Jr. Leaders Robotics clubs New vols (age 20 +)

4-H Staff Input and Communication is Important Contact marilyn.lesmeister@oregonstat.edumarilyn.lesmeister@oregonstat.edu to share: How can this workshop help prepare a team to work with you for successful social media work needed in YOUR county/program? A power point presentation will be shared with 4-H staff that provides details to understand best practices, policies, and teamwork messages that will be part of the Social Media workshop. A staff Q & A teleconference will be scheduled - PRIOR to the social media workshop.

Thursday, August 22 Thursday afternoon and evening will include: Arrive at OSU for lunch; check into Weatherford Discuss expectations for teams to work with staff and support 4-H programming Understand use of 4-H Clover and related 4-H social media policies Learn and practice technical skills (facebook, twitter, blog) Share ideas for ways social media will be used ‘back home’ Begin to apply best practices when using social media Outline plans for stories to upload from the 2013 State Fair

Friday, August 23 Friday morning will include: Learning technical skills in photography and video for use in social media Developing plans to use social media in county/program Traveling to State Fair to capture 4-H stories Developing and editing 4-H stories back at OSU Continuing to learn from one another

Saturday, August 24 Saturday morning will include: More educational moments; Q & A Editing and uploading photos, stories and videos onto STATE FAIR Facebook, county or program social media sites… Sharing creative ideas to use social media Offering suggestions to one another Reviewing other resources available

Deliverables… A county or program plan for working with 4-H staff to increase social media communications State Fair info uploaded to local FB page Other postings about priorities 4-H staff request Two dates for Social Media Teams to meet after the workshop to support current and future work

And TEAMS are Celebrities! Each step of the learning, applying, reflecting, and uploading will be captured for OSU Extension EESC and 4-H communication

Deadlines & Commitments Register before or by Thursday, August 15 Registration will end when approximately 30 registrants are submitted By August 20, submit $20 per team member to: 4-H Foundation (for Social Media Team)
