6 Intel® Education K-12 Thinking Tools
Based on cognitive research that shows how kids think Active learning places where students engage Teachers play a critical role, facilitating to take student thinking deeper Results = visualize thinking + gauge understanding What goes on in classrooms where students exercise their higher-order thinking skills? Plenty. These are active learning places where students engage in robust discussions, pursue investigations, analyze complex information, and solve problems. Teachers play a critical role: facilitating learning activities and posing questions that take student thinking deeper. These 3 tools help you manage projects that let you & your students visualize their thinking and growth in understanding over time. This process helps teachers gauge student understanding and also helps students direct their own learning. Copyright © 2010 Intel Corporation. All rights reserved. 9 Teacher Workspace | Edit Project | Sign in as student
Visual Ranking Tool Teacher Workspace | Edit Project | Sign in as student What is the most important advice you’d give a teacher new to technology integration? Making a list is easy – but when you order and prioritize items in that list, higher-level skills of analysis and evaluation are put to use. The Visual Ranking Tool brings focus to the thinking behind making ordered lists. Students identify and refine criteria as they assign order or ranking to a list. They must explain their reasoning and can compare their work with each other in a visual diagram. This tool supports activities where students need to organize ideas, debate differences, and reach consensus. Copyright © 2010 Intel Corporation. All rights reserved. 10 How can math help me understand my world
Seeing Reason Tool Project Idea: Why Math? Unit Plan: How can math help me understand my world To show the surround that all tools have, walk-through the Project Examples content in SR (Project Ideas and Unit Plan) – show one, demo the benefits of the unit plans (use or adapt, from teachers trained in Intel Teach) I like the ‘Why Math’ unit – but pick one you like to show an example and how teachers can use it as-is or as a model for their curriculum.   Analyzing cause-and-effect relationships is important to understanding complex systems. With the Seeing Reason Tool students create visual maps of the factors and relationships in a cause-and-effect investigation. These maps make thinking visible and promote collaboration as students work together to refine their understanding. Copyright © 2010 Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.
