Scholarship Program Each year, TLF awards scholarships to ethnic minority undergraduate and graduate students across the U.S. who are pursuing careers in advertising, marketing or public relations. For TLF’s 16 th Anniversary Scholarship & Donor Recognition Reception, we will award a total of $150,000 in 40 scholarships – 20 undergraduate and 20 graduate scholarships. The program will take place in Minneapolis in May of 2014. Pam Edstrom, President of the Microsoft Account Worldwide and Agency Founder of Waggener Edstrom will host a welcome dinner for the student. Carmichael Lynch will host a day-long career development workshop at their office and the Scholarship & Donor Recognition Reception that evening. The winners will also participate in another career development workshop the following day hosted by Cargill, Inc.

Career Development Workshops TLF partners with agencies, corporations and nonprofit organizations to host career development workshops for ethnic minority students. The workshops take place throughout the year and help TLF reach students across the U.S. Workshops typically take place on a Friday and the host company is responsible for creating the agenda with speakers and providing lunch for the students. TLF is responsible for recruiting all of the students, managing the registration list, collecting resumes, sending evaluation forms and drafting a photo release to be shared with TLF’s database.

Mentors TLF partners each of the scholarship recipients with a professional mentor. The students are paired with someone already working in their field of interest and are there to guide them as they transition from students to professionals themselves. The goal is to have the mentor and mentee connect once every other month to provide help.

Internships TLF has a database of over 500 ethnic minority candidates for internship and entry-level full time positions. Working closely with an agency, corporation or nonprofit organization, TLF recruits and pre-screens candidates for available internship and entry-level positions.

Internship Recruiting Process Once TLF receives the job description, we will send it out to our total database requesting that applicants contact Ericka Iniguez directly and submit a resume, cover letter and three writing samples. Ericka will then schedule a pre-screening phone call with each candidate to ensure that they meet the requirements, are available for the desired time-frame and are also located in the required city. Ericka will then submit the candidates’ information to the company for review.

Internship Recruiting Process Once the company has the candidates’ information they can select who they want to reach out to for a phone interview or in-person interview. It is very important that the company is in constant communication with TLF for tracking purposes. In addition, if a candidate is not selected, TLF would also like to know why so that they can provide the feedback to the candidate and recommend additional training. Once the candidate is selected, a company can continue with their own internal process.

Internship Recruiting Process TLF will keep in contact with all interns and entry-level candidates who are placed for additional coaching. We also ask that each person placed write a blog post about their internship experience to be included in TLF’s website. The ultimate goal is to get as many ethnic minority candidates placed full-time and eventually reach senior level standing within a company.
