How to Write a Speech For kids

Topic Should interest you Should interest your friends and family Is something you want to know more about or already know a lot about BE EXCITING OR INSPIRING! Something you can talk about for 3-5 mins.

How to choose a topic… Think outside the box like “The day in the life of bubble gum, or a pizza, or a shoe…” Think of something/someone that inspires you (Movie star, family member, hero…) Think of something personal to you that you want to share with other people This is NOT a piece of writing, it is a speech!

LAYOUT Catchy intro Personal introduction (Who are you?) Juicy middle with many supporting facts/details (5Ws) Summary of ideas and awesome ending

Intro Ideas PoemSong Riddle or jingle Question Actions or drama (be careful not too much!) REMEMBER: everyone is waiting to hear YOU!

Middle Don’t give too many facts because that may get boring Use humour/tell jokes Give examples Speak from the heart BE A STORYTELLER!!!!

Catchy ENDING Don’t just say, “Thank you, the end”…you need to end your speech so that you leave people wanting MORE! Tell a joke, a story, a fact, something catchy! Rephrase your main idea! Say thank you for listening

Now, it’s your turn… You need to pick a topic, follow the format, and write away! This is a homework assignment. We will have SOME class time to work on it and practice our speeches. You all will present to the class I will choose 2-3 students to present in the LC and 2 students will move on to the competition! (Saturday)
