What is Augmented Reality? A.R is the process of superimposing digitally rendered images onto our real-world surroundings, giving a sense of an illusion or virtual reality.

Background Augmented reality started as early as the 1950s and has progressed with virtual reality since then, but its most significant advanced have been since the mid- 1990s.

Background used in CAD programs for aircraft assembly and architecture, simulation, navigation, military, medical procedures assembly and maintenance can be simplified to assist in training and product prototypes.

two methodologies in A.R: Marker-Based : software recognize in a specific pattern: symbol or barcode. a camera points on an object and creates a digital image on the screen.

Location-Based : Location-based app utilized the capability of a specific device to record the object’s position in the globe. It is then provide data about the object that is appropriate to the location.

Augmented reality helps teachers to add digital contents with lot of information as well as geographic locations about a place or object. Augmented Reality in Education

learning deepens, not just through reading and listening, but also through creating and interacting Example: aurasma

 Homework Mini-Lessons: When students scan a page of their homework, the page reveals a video of their teacher helping them solve a problem.

 Faculty Photo Wall: Set up a display of faculty photos near the school entrance. Visitors can scan the image of any instructor and see that figure come to life, telling more about him- or herself.

 Book Reviews: Students record themselves giving a brief review of a novel that they just finished, and then attach that "aura" (assigned digital information) to a book. Afterward, anyone can scan the cover of the book and instantly access the review.

 Yearbooks: From tributes to video profiles, from sports highlights to skits and concert footage, the ways that AR can enhance a school yearbook are limitless.

 Word Walls: Students can record themselves providing the definitions to different vocabulary words on a word wall.

 Lab Safety: Put triggers all around a science laboratory so that when students scan them, they can quickly learn the different safety procedures and protocols for the lab equipment.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Sign Language Flashcards: With AR, flashcards of vocabulary words can contain a video overlay that shows how to sign a word or phrase.

Augmented Reality Apps There are many apps available at Google play and apple store.

Android Apps  Anatomy 4D (Android, iOS) (Free)

Augment (Android, iOS) (Free)

QR CODE

How to use a QR code in the classroom

Conclusion Augmented Reality Software allows us integrate different materials in class and create contents for our classes or promote students’ creative skills.
