3 ©SHRM 2007SHRM Weekly Online Survey: June 19, 20073 Does Your Organization Conduct Post-hire Background Checks of Your Employees? While we do not conduct background checks as a company, most of our employees require clearances and must undergo a through background investigation by the government. We will perform a post-hire background check in extraordinary situations that require employer to comply with due diligence laws; however, all employees sign a waiver allowing this at the beginning of their employment. We are planning to begin a program of post hire background checks for some positions within the coming year. We are developing a policy that all employees who have not had a pre-employment background check will have one (those hired prior to 2004) We also conduct some checks randomly We conduct updates at least every 2-5 years Unless customer requested prior to a service call Subsequent arrest notice Only if given reason to question their past Only as mandated by MDE & State/Fed laws We conduct post-hire background checks In conjunction with internal affairs investigations. If information gathered during an investigation provides reasonable cause to do so Fingerprint each employee at our federally insured bank post hire and then every five years (i.e., background checks of employees who are currently working at your organization)
