Presentation on theme: "Internal Heart Interatrial Septum Interventricular Septum"— Presentation transcript:

1 Internal Heart Interatrial Septum Interventricular Septum
Separates Atria Interventricular Septum Separates Ventricles

2 Internal Heart Atrioventricular (AV) Valves
Connects Right Atrium to Right Ventricle & Left Atrium to Left Ventricle Permits blood flow in ONE DIRECTION from Atria to Ventricle Atrium to Ventricle

3 Internal Heart (Right Side)
Right Atrium Receives blood form Body with CO2 Superior Vena Cava Receives blood from Head, Neck, Upper Limbs & Chest Inferior Vena Cava Receives blood from Trunk & lower Limbs

4 Internal Heart (Right Side)
Right Ventricle Pumps blood with CO2 to lungs Chordae Tendineae Edges attached to AV Valve Papillary Muscles Attached to Chordae Tendineae Prevents AV Valves from opening backwards

5 Internal Heart (Right Side)
Right Atrioventricular (AV) Valve Tricuspid Valve 3 cusps Opens from Right Atrium to Right Ventricle Prevents backflow

6 Internal Heart (Left Side)
Left Atrium Receives blood from lungs with O2 Blood gathers in Left & Right Pulmonary Veins Pulmonary Veins deliver blood to Left Atrium Blood from Left Atrium passes to Left Ventricle through Left Atrioventricular Valve

7 Internal Heart (Left Side)
Left Atrioventricular (AV) Valve Bicuspid Valve OR Mitral valve Two- cusped valve

8 Internal Heart (Left Side)
Left Ventricle Pumps blood with O2 to body Holds the same Volume as the Right Ventricle Left Ventricle is: LARGER Muscle is THICKER & more POWERFUL

9 Right Ventricle vs. Left Ventricle

10 External Heart (Anterior)
Arch of Aorta Pulmonary Artery Superior Vena Cava Pulmonary Trunk Right Auricle / Right Atrium Left Auricle/ Left Atrium Base of the Heart Coronary Vessels Apex of the Heart Interventriclular Sulcus Myocardial Blood Flow
