3 Stand: 23.06.2008 Folie 3 Results –More than 550.000 entitlements –360.000 course participants attending a course –200.000 participants completed the course –50% reached competence level B1 (CEF) –2/3 of participants are women –2/3 of participants attend the course voluntarily

4 Stand: 23.06.2008 Folie 4 Survey 2007 / 2008 courses with 3960 participants –80% of participants wanted to improve their competence of the German language –77% hoped to get better access to the labour market –70% considered the learning rate absolutely right –78% were highly satisfied with the course –2,5% didn't like the course at all

8 Stand: 23.06.2008 Folie 8 Course improvements since 2007 Organisational and financial improvements –Expansion of course access (e.g. for Germans with migration background) –Incentives (e.g. refund of participant's contribution) –Increased course funding (2,35 € per participant / lesson) –Increased funding of child care during lessons

9 Stand: 23.06.2008 Folie 9 Pedagogical improvements –Tailor-made course concepts (e.g. for illiterates) –Extension of lessons per language course (max. 1.200 lessons) (900 lessons for special courses and possibility to repeat another 300 lessons) –New common curriculum for language course was established (German as a second language) –Extension of lessons per Orientation Course (45 lessons) –New standardised curriculum for Orientation Course –New grading test –New final test (adaptive A2 – B1)

10 Stand: 23.06.2008 Folie 10 Teaching staff –10.000 teachers –5.000 are graduates of Universities (e.g. German as a second language or Teachers of German) –Special skill-building programme for those who haven't a final degree in German as a second language –2.500 have received special training
