1 This is the assessment workbook I have created for KS3 (following from the next slide). The aim here is for students to focus on skills rather than levels. First of all, in each lesson (in their main SOW booklet) they complete a scoring sheet based on 5 skills. These 5 skills can be related to any piece of work we do in music (with the rare exception of Ensemble skills which sometimes is not relevant). With guidance from the teacher, students circle one of the icons to denote their opinion of their progress or achievement in their lesson relating to each of the skills. Preceding a formal assessment, students complete this on a radial diagram, giving themselves the correct number of points relating to their perception of their skills. The advantage of this being that it is a clear visual indicator as to their strengths which skills they need to improve. The teacher can then draw their assessment on the radial diagrams so students can see their formal assessment against the skills criteria. The teacher can then add up the cumulative number of points (Total) and establish whether students are working ‘at expectations’ ‘above’ or ‘far below’ etc. These are based loosely on National curriculum levels and descriptors as were and the expectations of a level for the average student in each year group. Both students and teacher also complete a WWW/EBI to elucidate further. OBJECTIVES Almost Yes I can! SCORING Lesson 1 I can sing a tune. PitchU- -= ++ I can sing a tune with confidence.
