Binge drinking- Proposal B RICHARD FASHOLA

First Interview- Initial Idea  The first initial idea for my interview is a game show where the interviewer is at the front, with four rehabilitated teenagers who used to drink but are now clean. The four people have buzzers in front of them which they can press when a question is asked, the question will consist of questions such as “What led you to go down the path of binge dinking?”. Whoever’s answer is more dramatic and truthful, they get points based on their answer. At the end of the game show, the audience judges the interviewees and whoever’s story they find more emphasizing wins the game show. The winner’s points then transforms into a cheque which is given to a charity to help binge drinkers become clean and to go back into society as a civilised person. The interview will involve formal language and formal dressing but it is not essential for the interviewee to dress smart. The interview will be showed on BBC Three at 7.30pm, I chose BBC three as they share the same type of target audience as my interview and I know this due to research I done for BBC three. They have a 1.3% share of the television audience which may not seem much but most of the percentage is full of my target audience.

Research behind the interview  The research behind the interview has been crucial and helpful at the same, I’ve done mostly primary research into other game shows and how the work. I chose the format of a game show as I found it the most interesting and simulating in terms of being enjoyable to be watched by the audience especially as it is aimed at teenagers between the ages of 13-21 and the people of this generation want to watch something that is actually entertaining to watch. This is where my initial idea of a game show comes in where it is enjoyable to watch not while still being educating to the audience having that perfect balance. The primary research I have carried out is substantial as I made a survey which illustrates what type of interview young people aged between 16-30 would want to see, they want that is entertaining to watch while still being informative at the same time. I surveyed 15 people in total, both boys and girls and the results came back positively. 12 people out of 15 said that they would like to see a game show in the form of a interview as it is something they have never seen before and it is different.

Second idea- Evening chat show  The second idea I have for my interview is a evening chat show, which is simple yet effective. There will be an audience watching the stage, with the interviewer and interviewee both at the front of the stage. The interview will consist of the interviewer asking the interviewee questions which will talk about their past and how they overcome their problem. The screen will also have facts about drinking pop up on the screen at the bottom each time something is said which is considered to be important to the viewers at home. The interview will involve formal language and formal dressing but it is not essential for the interviewee to dress smart.

Research behind the second idea  I have been researching into other chat shows in order to gain a general overview of how they are and what they contain, to see if they’re suitable for the subject I am covering. I looked at chat shows such as Jonathan Ross which actually inspired me to do a chat show and I think it is a good format to do the interview in as I know the audience will respond well. There were many things which I enjoyed about the Jonathan Ross Television interview, such as the comedic elements which are implemented into the interview which are said by Jonathan ross this gives the interview a easier atmosphere for the interviewee to talk in as they feel more relaxed and there is less pressure for them putting them at ease. So I would like to do my interview in a similar fashion I looked at other interviews in the same format such as Morning TV but some of the things I didn’t lie so much about Morning TV is that it seemed as if quite a lot of pressure was forced onto the guests and not a lot was done to make them feel more comfortable. I know that my target audience will enjoy this format which is between the ages of 16-35 as this is similar to the age group of that watch Jonathan ross thanks to my research.

Third idea- Urban  My third interview will be set in an urban setting where the interviewer will take to the streets of London, The interviewer will walk where moderately young and diverse people are such as New cross, Lewisham etc where the interviewer will ask prodemonitely young people if they drink or not, whether they know someone that drinks excessively or if they drink themselves, etc in order to get a young persons approach on how drinking affects them.

Research behind the third idea  I have done my research behind my third idea where people walk the streets and ask questions, I found this type of interview entertaining and enjoyable. It will most definitely appeal to young people as the interview itself is asking young people questions especially with the interview being done in London so there will be a multitude of different type of people answering so it won’t be the same each time. I have seen this type of interview on MTV which again is aimed at the same type of target audience which is male and female, aged 16-35 so I'm sure that they will enjoy my interview as well. Interview of this type is entertaining and fun to watch, while still being educative at the same time.
