16 __________________________________________ FAMINE EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS NETWORK15 Monsoon: The June to September Indian Monsoon is expected to bring average to below-average rain to eastern Afghanistan due to the El Niño event. No unusually heavy rains that would lead to large-scale flooding are expected. Temperature: Average to above-average temperatures are expected from June to August. Temperature anomalies are not expected to have an adverse impact on availability of irrigation water for the remainder of the 2015 cropping seasons. 2015/2016 Wet Season: The forecast continuation of El Niño through early 2016 will result in above-average precipitation for Afghanistan during the coming wet season from October 2015 to May 2016.
