2 Tin Symbol: SN Atomic mass: 119 Atomic number: 50 Color: silvery grey
Classification: metallic

3 Common Uses Tin is used in corrosion prevention. It is used to coat other materials that may easily corrode such as steel cans. It is also used in the manufacture of superconducting magnets. Tin and fluorine are mixed and used in some toothpastes. Tin is more useful when added to another material than when its in its original form.

The location of discovery and year are unknown. The origin of the symbol is Latin for stannum(Sn). The origin of the name is Anglo-Saxon.

5 Sources of Tin Tin is principally found in the ore cassiterite and stannine. Malaysia, Sumatra, Russia, China, Bolivia, Zaire are the primary mining areas.
